Cars Crashing

You probably have noticed fewer cars on the streets and freeways, especially around rush hour. With Covid spreading in our communities and many companies allowing their employees to work from home, our streets and highways have  opened up and we can get to where we are going in less time than before the pandemic.  You would think this also would result in less traffic accidents and resulting roadway deaths.

Unfortunately, with less packed streets drivers have tended to increase their speed.& Increased speed leads to more crashes and more severe injuries and more deaths.

The National Safety Council recently released a report stating that 42,060 people died in car crashes in 2020. That is an 8% increase from 2019.
During the same period, road miles driven dropped 13%. One would expect deaths to drop as well, but the opposite happened due to increased driving speed and riskier driving habits by the public.

It’s a good time to remind our readers that receiving a speeding ticket can increase your auto insurance rate by as much as 20 % and this increase can effect your insurance rate for as long as 5 years.
