Earthquakes can severely damage homes and their foundations.
Californians are once again feeling the San Andreas Fault shift under their feet. They have experienced 10 earthquakes in the past 24 hours…..WOW!
Most Californian’s have by now figured out that they need to carry an insurance policy that specifically covers damage to their home due to ‘earth movement’, which is not ever covered under a standard home insurance policy. Earthquake insurance can be purchased as an endorsement (an addition) to their current home insurance policy or as a stand-alone policy.
Over the years I have had clients request to quote and/or purchase earthquake insurance as we do have a fault that runs across I-70 in Golden, CO called the Dakota Hogback near Red Rocks. Fortunately for us Coloradan’s this type of policy is not required by our home lenders; as our chances of a big earthquake (one that can cause damage to a home) is still very low.
Chance of Earthquake in Colorado
If you are interested in purchasing earthquake insurance here in Colorado, you will find the policies much cheaper than the Earthquake insurance policies issued in California.
